The differential cross sections for elastic and reactive scattering of Na from SF6 have been measured with time-of-flight analysis in the range of collision energies from 0.3 to 2 eV. No reactive signal is observed for the collision energies below 0.5 eV. By evaluation of the nonreactive differential cross section in the framework of the optical model, we obtain the opacity function and an estimate of the total reactive cross section of 46 ± 4 Å2 at the collision energies above 0.7 eV. © 1993 American Chemical Society.
