Hollitzer, Wien, 2018.
abstract bibtex
According to Adorno, Anton Webern’s atonal compositions are considered 'absolute lyricism', i.e. the expression of an inwardness (Innerlichkeit). Using the example of an early piano song by Webern, the concept of mood (Stimmung) is used to analyze which compositional features construct an inwardness already in this tonal work. The specific inwardness of Webern’s song is illustrated by a comparison with Max Reger’s setting to music of the same poem.
