Lateral electron tunneling through single self-assembled InAs quantum dots coupled to superconducting nanogap electrodes. Applied Physics Letters, 91(11):112102, September, 2007.
Paper doi abstract bibtex The authors have fabricated superconductor-quantum dot-superconductor (SC-QD-SC) junctions by using SC aluminum electrodes with narrow gaps laterally contacting a single self-assembled InAs QD. The fabricated junctions exhibited clear Coulomb staircases and Coulomb oscillations at 40mK40mK\textlessmath display="inline" overflow="scroll" altimg="eq-00001.gif"\textgreater\textlessmrow\textgreater\textlessmn\textgreater40\textless/mn\textgreater\textlessmspace width="0.3em"\textgreater\textless/mspace\textgreater\textlessmi\textgreatermK\textless/mi\textgreater\textless/mrow\textgreater\textless/math\textgreater. Furthermore, clear suppression in conductance was observed for the source-drain voltage, ∣VSD∣\textless2Δ∕e∣VSD∣\textless2Δ∕e\textlessmath display="inline" overflow="scroll" altimg="eq-00002.gif"\textgreater\textlessmrow\textgreater\textlessmrow\textgreater\textlessmo\textgreater∣\textless/mo\textgreater\textlessmsub\textgreater\textlessmi\textgreaterV\textless/mi\textgreater\textlessmi\textgreaterSD\textless/mi\textgreater\textless/msub\textgreater\textlessmo\textgreater∣\textless/mo\textgreater\textless/mrow\textgreater\textlessmo\textgreater<\textless/mo\textgreater\textlessmn\textgreater2\textless/mn\textgreater\textlessmi\textgreaterΔ\textless/mi\textgreater\textlessmo\textgreater∕\textless/mo\textgreater\textlessmi\textgreatere\textless/mi\textgreater\textless/mrow\textgreater\textless/math\textgreater, where ΔΔ\textlessmath display="inline" overflow="scroll" altimg="eq-00003.gif"\textgreater\textlessmi\textgreaterΔ\textless/mi\textgreater\textless/math\textgreater is the SC energy gap of Al. The absence of Josephson current that flows through QDs is due to the strong Coulomb interaction and non-negligible thermal fluctuation in our measurement system.
