Principle-based and computational-based varieties of scientific realism. 2018.
abstract   bibtex
In this paper we propose a version of scientific realism as an alternative to the mainstream realism, which is in most cases based on empirical adequacy. First, we argue for the role of principles and laws of nature for the realist commitments of theories. Second, we investigate a form of computational realism in which integrability (called here “inference to the best computation”) entails a form of realism. A couple of examples and counterexamples are briefly discussed, as illustrations of these types of scientific realism.
