Impression of am ancient Roman mustard yellow jasper intaglio, dating to the Antonine period of the 2nd century A.D. The intaglio is cut with a representation of a modius, scales and ears of wheat. The modius was an ancient Roman unit for Dry measures for wheat, grain and barley, (8.73 l roughly equivalent to a peck). The scales for weighing the said measures of grain, together this symbology would refer to a merchant or an 'Aedile' at the Cura Annonae
