The theoretical approaches presented are: the study of the flow of scientific information; representation of information and information retrieval; information needs and users studies; information and knowledge management; political economy of information; and metric information studies. After, the three concepts of information, following the vision of various authors, are presented: the physical/syntactic/restricted/positivist concept; the semantic/cognitive/broad concept; and the pragmatic/broader/alternative/social.
