Nevertheless, recent advances in computing and communication technologies have made it feasible and economically viable to provide on-line access to a variety of information sources such as books, periodicals, images, video clips, and scientific data. With an efficient standardized data compression technology such as MPEG (Moving Picture Experts Group), huge video files become manageable in computer systems and transferable over networks.
