Resolving issues of diagnosis when working with alienated children and families. A.Wygant, S. Feedback: Journal of the Family Therapy Association of Ireland, 6(Summer):pgs. 28–42, Family Therapy Association of Ireland (FTAI), 2020.
Paper abstract bibtex Despite a growing awareness of the harmful effects of parental alienation ( Kruk, 2018 ), diagnosis and treatment remain a significant challenge (Butz & Evans, 2019). Overcoming this challenge requires an understanding of how to ( 1 ) measure and document a child ’s exposure to alienating behaviors, (2) diagnose symptoms of parental alienation within the family system , and (3 ) implement effective treatment strategies. The following is a brief guide to help clinicians resolve some of the most common diagnostic issues encountered when working with alienated children and families.
