Paper abstract bibtex It discusses, in the light of international literature, the issues that affect indigenous knowledge in the perspective of reflecting on the contribution and role of the university library for the preservation of the culture of the original peoples. It conceptually examines the issue of traditional knowledge and its reliance on the local and global social context. It highlights the fundamental precepts of Indigenous Librarianship whose action should reflect on the making of the university library. It presents a list of actions that university libraries, especially in Africa, the United States and Canada, are carrying out to promote the theme in the institutional context
