Network Calculus-based Analysis of the Characteristics of Internet Traffic from the WIDE Data Archive. Barton, N., Nematbakhsh, B, S., Sethi, & J, R. Technical Report 2004. abstract bibtex The Widely Integrated Distributed Environment (WIDE) project monitors Internet traffic between the USA and Japan at five sample points. This measurement study utilizes the tcpdump data archives they generate to test how real Internet traffic compares with theoretical models derived using the tools of Network Calculus. Empirically-derived minimal arrival curves via de-convolutions for various daily trace files are analyzed to see how they compare to the many standard arrival curve models. In addition, we check to see if the daily trace files are well-behaved and smooth, if the curves generated from traces collected on different days have a consistent structure, and if noticeable changes can be correlated to spatial or temporal factors.
