Accounting for French Feminism’s Blindness to Difference : The Inescapable Legacy of Universalism. Bereni, L. In pages 1--9, 2009.
abstract   bibtex
Interesting article. Basically, neither branches of French feminism offer full critiques of French universalism; -- radical wing is confronted with the universalism of Marxism and -- the liberal wing fought to make gender the only universal divide in order to win support from republicanism- that gender discrimination in effect was a violation of universalism (something they wholly believed in). The consequence is that they can't address the same kinds if intersectionality that American style feminism addresses. (note on p.1)
