A importância dos pressupostos ontológicos como base para o uso articulado de ontologias no contexto da web semântica [link]Paper  abstract   bibtex
The adoption of ontologies has increased in recent years, having as one of its motivations the need to describe resources in order to help their interoperability, especially in the area of Biomedicine. Recently, the semantic web initiatives reinforce this trend, with the exponential growth of publication of linked data, which relies heavily on the use of vocabularies from different sources and topics. In this scenario, where the dynamics or urgency of creating these vocabularies often supplants the adoption of systematic practices for their organization, we observed little support to explicit the principles that guide their construction. Especially considering the need to articulate these vocabularies, independently constructed and often maintained decentralized, the identification of the nature of the concepts involved is a key element to avoid ambiguities when making correspondences between them. The aim of this work is to help disseminate and explain the importance of ontological assumptions in the use of ontologies in the context of semantic web, and to discuss differences to assumptions commonly adopted by the information scientist in the scope of bibliographical classification. The result is a proposed set of basic ontological assumptions, to be adopted by an information scientist as a starting point to organize ontologies. Support for this task may represent an important niche for Information Science, which has been working for decades on the organization of taxonomies, thesauri and controlled vocabularies, accumulating a valuable experience.
