CHAPTER 54 Attention and Spatial Language [pdf]Paper  abstract   bibtex
This chapter summarizes recent research on the role of attention in spatial language. Spatial language is a domain that focuses on the comprehension and pro-duction of spatial descriptions of objects and relations in an environment. First, we establish that attention is necessary for the apprehension of spatial language. Second, we describe a computational model of the apprehension of spatial language, and examine how attention plays a role within its constituent steps. We conclude by underscoring the importance of looking at the interface between attention and spatial lan-guage, and point out areas for future work.
