URL abstract bibtex Kindermusik is a collection of musical portraits of children written for a string quartet, a marimba and a piano. It was composed from September 2006 through January 2007. The piece consists of four movements, each portraying a child or two in the photos taken by the German fine-art photographer Loretta Lux. A total of nine photographs by Lux, featuring six children, were chosen to be the inspiration for Kindermusik. The titles of the four movements, which are based on the titles of the photos, are Troll, Dorothea and Pauline, Boy, and The Walk . Each movement depicts both the superficial appearances of the children in the photos, which in themselves are quite out of ordinary, and the more innate characteristics of them, which stemmed purely from my imagination of the children's unseen qualities
