Inquiring Adolescent Minds Want to Know: "What Is Happening to Me?". Cichuki, P. H. Montessori Life: A Publication of the American Montessori Society, 19(4):20–21, 2007. Publisher: American Montessori Society, 281 Park Avenue South, New York, NY 10010-6102
Paper abstract bibtex In this article, the author describes the various changes that are experienced by young adolescents. Physically, early adolescents are growing faster than at any other time in their lives except infancy. They experience significant increases in weight, height, heart size, lung capacity, and muscular strength. Intellectually and cognitively, early adolescents are making the transition to abstract thought processes. Challenging authority is also well-known psychosocial characteristic of this age. The author contends that young adolescents should understand what physical, intellectual, and emotional changes they will experience because they benefit from learning to recognize and appreciate what is typical for their growth.
