Contextual Factors in the Accuracy of Leader Perceptions of Constituents' Views. Clausen, A. R., Holmberg, S., & deHaven-Smith , L. The Journal of Politics, 45(2):449–472, May, 1983. Publisher: Southern Political Science Associationdoi abstract bibtex This paper demonstrates the importance of contextual variables for explaining variation in the accuracy of Swedish legislators' perceptions of their constituents' views on sixteen issues. The unipolarity of constituency views displaces homogeneity as a premier predictor of accuracy, and the effects of the degree of attitude-perception dissonance are examined. A test for the existence of a general capacity for perceptual accuracy that varies among legislators but is constant across issues produces negative results.
