The Wigner distribution (WD) for discrete images is computed and analyzed for different test images. The distribution entails simultaneous representation of the intensity distribution and the spatial interdependence, so that it is especially suitable for processing textured information. Texture analysis is performed by the extraction of features from the WD, and the results are compared with other methods. The WD texture features are highly discriminating, and its application to effective texture classification and segmentation is suggested.
