Brazil's new law grants joint custody of children among divorces. What this new law overlooks, however, is the subjectivity of these families that undergo divorce, especially in cases that lead to Parental Alienation, where one parent manipulates the children to distance themselves from the other parent. Duarte illustrates the long-term psychological effects of Parental Alienation in children and how psychological analysts can effectively mediate between the family members of divorce by describing the case of "The Princes and the Eagle Shattered Stress," the case about a young girl who was the victim of acts of Parental Alienation by her mother.
