Cold Resistance of Prunus Domestica L. and Prunus Cerasifera Ehrh. in Lithuania [link]Paper  abstract   bibtex
Cold resistance of garden plum (Prunus domestica L.) and cherry plum (Prunus cerasifera Ehrh.) cultivars were studied at the Lithuanian Institute of Horticulture between 1996-2000. During various wintering periods, trials were carried out in different aspects, which established potential cold resistance of cultivars and resistance to abrupt frosts of genotypes. Cold resistance of one-year-old plum shoots was assessed by the direct freezing of the shoots and the differential thermal analysis method. Results obtained from the studies showed that cold resistance of plum in winter is highly affected by temperature fluctuations. Autumn and the beginning of winter, as the period when plums get ready for wintering, are very important for plum hardening. Cold resistance of plum cultivars varied in different years of investigation and wintering periods.
