The role of modeling in managing and planning of sustainable aquaculture, in: Sustainable Aquaculture. El-Gayar, O., F. & Leung PingSun The role of modeling in managing and planning of sustainable aquaculture, in: Sustainable Aquaculture, pages 149-175. John Wiley and Sons, Inc, 1997.
abstract   bibtex
The chapter provides an overview of aquaculture modeling with particular emphasis on management and planning applications of bioeconomic models at the farm as well as the regional level. The need and importance of tackling sustainability as a multicriteria concept as opposed to the traditional single criterion models is discussed. A decision support system for aquacultural development is presented. The use of this system in analysing the tradeoffs among economic, social and environmental goals is also demonstrated through a case study in northern Egypt.
