Digital Disconnect : How Capitalism is Turning the Internet Against Democracy [link]Website  abstract   bibtex
This is a crucial book for me - it gives me an analysis of the framework of capitalism and examines both sides of the internet revolution debate - the celebrants and the skeptics - and shows while both make good points both are essentially flawed as they fail to grasp the nature of capitalism and what those implications are for the future of journalism. McChesney recommends public subsidies to fund good, independent journalism - and says until we realize journalism IS a public good it will continue to spiral into decline and democracy will be the loser.
