God, desire, and musical narrative in the isorhythmic motet. Fast, S., (. Canadian university music review/Revue de musique des universités canadiennes, 18(1):19, 1, 1997.
abstract   bibtex
In the late medieval period, structure in French literature and music was shaped by beliefs deeply held within the culture, such as the belief that one's identity and desires are directed by God. An exploration of the relationship between literary and musical structure in the context of the isorhythmic motet features an analysis of Guillaume de Machaut's De bon espoir/Puis que la douce/Speravi.
