In the last two decades, in developing countries, many training activities for the safe use of pesticides have taken place. However follow up evaluations of some of these training courses has revealed that even though in most cases there has been a transfer of knowledge, this has not resulted in a significant change of attitude. It seems that the training activities have become a process of informing of existing dangers and of the safety standards that must be followed, with no real possibilities of changing the daily habits of most workers that use these products. The word safe, widely and repeatedly used in the training courses on pesticide management, is a myth that offers the participants a false sense of security, because there is no practical implementation of safe management as such. The need to make greater efforts towards the dissemination of agricultural practices which reduce or eliminate the use of these products is emphasized.
