Novel Player Experience with Sensory Substitution and Augmentation [link]Paper  doi  abstract   bibtex
Sensory substitution and augmentation (SSA) offer novel perceptual experiences to users, by taking sensor data appropriate to one modality and mapping it to another. This technology can be implemented as a new kind of digital game interface, bringing new skills and novel experience in games designed to take advantage of it. My research explores practical and theoretical obstacles, to establish the potential efficacy of this approach. At the same time, I aim to increase understanding of the nature of perceptual experience, especially in relation to real-world and virtual perceptual environments.
