The genus Olea is revised. 33 species and nine subspecies are recognized in three subgenera: Olea, Tetrapilus and Paniculatae, the first with two sections: Olea and Ligustroides. Three new taxa are recognized: subgen. Tetrapilus, subgen. Paniculatae and Olea woodiana subsp. disjuncta. Keys, descriptions, the citation of specimens and an index to exsiccatae are provided.
