The curve design system is based on an optimization algorithm that can minimize a variety of optimality functionals, which are based on the integration of the curve length, curvature and curvature derivatives. Besides the to be interpolated points further constraints on the curve normals can be incorporated easily into the optimization approach. It is furthermore shown how to design interpolating curves with continuity higher than C1.
