abstract   bibtex
Developments of qualitative methodology in French sociology are analyzed with respect to methods proposed by Pierre Bourdieu & Alain Touraine: "provoked & accompanied" self-analysis & the sociological intervention. Discussion compares the position of both authors on problems such as representativeness, objectivity, status of data, epistemological rupture, & the question of the writing by which sociological knowledge is formed from commonsense knowledge contained in the data. The strengths & weakeness of each method are examined. 30 References. Adapted from the source document.
