  abstract = {This study aims to provide a more detailed and phonetically descriptive account of tonal phenomena in Dzongkha phonology than has been previously attempted. The study focuses on phonetic analysis of data collected from a female native speaker from Thimpu, as well as phonetic analysis of a male speaker from Gaselô. Among the tonal phenomena discussed are vowel breathiness, tone contour, and how these phenomena interact with and arise from features of onset consonants, in particular aspiration and voicing. A reanalysis of the consonant system based on the findings from the phonetic analyses is presented. Moreover, this study extends the scope of previous research on tone contour in monosyllabic to tone contour in disyllabic words.},
