Ecopolitics and the literature of the Borderlands: The Frontiers of Environmental Justice in Latina and Native American Writing. Killingsworth, M. & Palmer, J. S. Writing the Environment: Ecocriticism and Literature (Zed Books), 1998.
Paper abstract bibtex Although social and environmental movements were first linked in the 1960s, they gained momentum together in the 1980s as one environmental disaster after another disproportionately affected the poor. The emerging environmental justice movement has been largely ignored by mainstream environmentalists as well as deep ecologists. Nevertheless, the environmental justice movement has had an effect on environmental literature, thus developing a new language and a new audience. Examples from Latina and Native American writers provide a fresh expression of the concept of the American frontier.
