The Justice Model and Public Ideology: Crime Control and the Vigilante Spirit. Klein, L. & Bronstein, E. 1985.
abstract   bibtex
A round table discussion assessing public sentiment toward \& the viability of changes in the administration of justice, \& evaluating citizens' crime control sentiment \& the real or ideological basis of vigilantism. The Bernhard Goetz case has reopened a recurring debate. People are taking a hard line on crime \& endorsing the "justice model" rather than rehabilitation. "Crime control" \& "fighting back" (or vigilantism) are standard expressions describing this view. The controversy over whether judicial discretion is still a viable policy, the efficiency of police forces, \& the role of prisons as institutions for punishment or retribution vs rehabilitation are key issues.
