An electrolyte containing ethanol, ethylene glycol, and sodium thiocyanate (or ammonium thiocyanate) has been developed. It is demonstrated that this solution has a good polishing action on pure zinc and zinc alloys in the systems ZnAlCu, ZnCuMn, and ZnNiCdFe. The electropolishing process ensures that bright, defect-free surfaces are obtained for most of these alloys, irrespective of the different chemical compositions and phases present. The process is quick and preliminary specimen preparation is minimal.","language":"en","number":"4","urldate":"2021-04-08","journal":"Materials Characterization","author":[{"propositions":[],"lastnames":["Kovacheva"],"firstnames":["Rosiza"],"suffixes":[]},{"propositions":[],"lastnames":["Gidikova"],"firstnames":["Neli"],"suffixes":[]},{"propositions":[],"lastnames":["Lilova"],"firstnames":["Albena"],"suffixes":[]}],"month":"June","year":"1992","note":"00005","pages":"205–211","bibtex":"@article{kovacheva_new_1992,\n\tseries = {1988 {IMS} {Symposium} {Metallography} and {Corrosion}},\n\ttitle = {A new electropolishing technique for metallographic specimen preparation of zinc and zinc alloys},\n\tvolume = {28},\n\tissn = {1044-5803},\n\turl = {10/bq4dfg},\n\tdoi = {10/bq4dfg},\n\tabstract = {This article describes results obtained with a new method for electropolishing metallographic specimens of zinc and zinc alloys.
