Adolescent violence: Risk, resilience, and prevention. Kretman, S. E, Zimmerman, M., Morrel-Samuels, S., Hudson, D., DiClemente, R. J<nbsp>E., Santelli, J. S<nbsp>E., Crosby, R. A<nbsp>E., DiClemente, R. J<nbsp>E., Santelli, J. S<nbsp>E., & Crosby, R. A<nbsp>E. In Adolescent health Understanding and preventing risk behaviors, pages 213--232. 2009. abstract bibtex (from the chapter) Adolescent violence remains a serious public health problem. Despite a relative decrease in the prevalence of violence among adolescents compared with the peak rates of the early 1990s, violence continues to be a major contributor to the premature mortality and morbidity of adolescents and young adults throughout the United States. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention noted that adolescent violence includes aggressive behaviors (such as verbal abuse, bullying, hitting, slapping, or fighting) that do not generally result in serious injury or death, but do have significant consequences on adolescent health nonetheless. Although researchers often conflate violent behavior with verbal abuse, delinquency, and less serious aggressive behavior, this chapter focuses on violent behavior and attitudes that are associated with physical assault.
