Digital disruptors: On the potentials and characteristics of digital knowledge-intensive entrepreneurial ventures [link]Paper  abstract   bibtex
In this paper we seek to advance the understanding of digital disruption by investigating the question: What characterizes the input, management, and performance of digital KIEs, and how does this relate to digital disruption? By exploring these issues, we propose to make two contributions to the discussion of digital disruption. First, we develop the argument that knowledge intensive entrepreneurial ventures in digital domains hold the potential to become the digital disruptors of tomorrow, why we should pay dedicated attention to such ventures when advancing the theory of digital disruption. Secondly, we suggest a methodology for researching digital KIEs and identifying distinct characteristics which relate to the capability of creating digital disruption. The results will aid innovation management researchers and practitioners in understanding what enables companies to generate digital disruption.
