Māori language as a subject for instruction in secondary schools 1909-2014. Lourie, M. 2014.
abstract   bibtex
Chronicles the inclusion and development of Māori language as a subject for instruction in New Zealand secondary schools beginning in 1909, when the language was first offered as a subject for instruction for boys in the denominational Māori boarding schools, and ending in 2014. Demonstrates that, over time, the place of the Māori language as a subject for instruction in secondary schools has been debated and challenged, and that as attitudes and beliefs about the role of Māori language in education have changed, so too, has the intended purpose of its inclusion as a subject.
