MSS examined include the Liber horarum of Fernando I of Castile and León (E-SCu res.5, 1058), the Codex Calixtinus (E-SC), the breviary (12th-14th c.) of the Catedral de Lugo (E-LUc), and the Vindel MS (US-NYpm M.979), with the cantigas de amigo of Martin Codax. Iconographic discussion focuses on the sculptures by Mateo de Compostela the Pórtico de Gloria of the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, of which color reproductions are provided. Transcriptions are provided of polyphonic music from the Codex Calixtinus, and the accompanying sound recording features music from this and compositions by Codax with experimental reproductions of the original instruments.
