Support for the Contextual Interpretation of Data within an Object-Oriented GIS. Mark, G. 1994. abstract bibtex Paper presents a means by which large and complex spatio-temporal datasets can be more easily understood by the non-expert user. Within an object oriented GIS the notions of context and significance are supported. The resulting system can highlight rare or interesting values within specific contexts, thus enhancing the information content of the data retrieved. Ideas are presented to capture domain distributions, to model distributions as they evolve over time, and ultimately to learn about the specific patterns of occurrence of spatial data. A spatially-oriented query language is enriched by the addition of new data driven operators to support the search for rare or otherwise significant object properties.
