I santuari isiaci di età repubblicana a Roma, l'Iseo Capitolino, l'Iseo Metellino e l'Iseo della Regio III: rilettura delle fonti scritte e archeologiche. Nuove riflessioni. Mazzuca, V. Bullettino della Commissione Archeologica Comunale di Roma, 115:25--46, 2014.
Paper abstract bibtex [A systematic study of Isis' cult places in Italy has never been carried out exhaustively, due to the lack of archaeological evidence and the difficulty of identifying clearly archaeological sites as worship places. These problems are even more concrete for Rome. As a matter of fact, among the cult places mentioned in literary sources, only the Iseum Campense has been identified; doubts still remain on the identification of the Serapeum of the Quirinal hill; and the Isea of the Capitoline hill, so-called Metellinum, and of Regio III have not yet been located. This paper surveys written sources and archaeological data concerning these last three buildings, which are the oldest still unknown, in order to determine their possible location. The great amount of sculptural material, epigraphic evidence, pictorial remains and personal objects referring to Isis that was found in Rome demonstrates how widespread the cult was, notwithstanding an evident public hostility ‒ political rather than religious ‒ that required a long-lasting and arduous acceptance process. However, this success does not seem to be reflected in the public and private structures come to the light in the city.]
