Betula megrelica D. Sosn. (Betulaceae), a relict birch from the Caucasus in Georgia, is illustrated and described, and its relationship with B. medwediewii is discussed. Its similarity to the fossil species, B. islandica Denk, Gŕımsson & Kvacek, described from the mid-Miocene in Iceland, is noted.
