abstract   bibtex
The better is the architecture the better it ages. This is a simple but valid principle that is stated by so many monuments all over the world. The paper refers of the ageing of low cost buildings of the so-called `Piano Inacasa'. This was a low cost housing program that built in Italy some 355.000 apartments (1.920.000 rooms) in 5.036 municipalities during the period 1950-1962. Of course such a program had a real impact on the organisation of most towns and led to build up fully new districts. This districts show common features all over Italy but have in the meantime different characters with regard to the design, and the materials. The problem is, 50 years later, to evaluate the actual level of building durability, quality of life, architectural value. A national research is financed by the Ministry of University and Scientific Research on this item aiming to define a code of intervention for restoration, rehabilitation, or updating. The paper refers of some results referred to relevant buildings.
