Lyonothamnus floribundus is a relictual species in a monotypic genus that includes four additional species in the fossil record. It is a narrow endemic, occurring only on the Channel Islands of Southern California. Because of its small stature, abundant flowers and deep green foliage, the species has ornamental value and is used extensively in landscape plantings.
