[Excerpt] This species is listed as Endangered in view of its extent of occurrence (EOO) estimated to be slightly less than 5,000 km2, its area of occupancy~(AOO) estimated to be 40 km2, its existence at four locations and an inferred and projected continuing decline in EOO, AOO and the number of mature individuals because of wood extraction for fuel and small timber. [::Common Name(s)] [::]English - Hayastanyan Pear [::Taxonomic Notes] Pyrus hajastana Mulk. was described by Ja. I. Mulkidjanyan from the Daralegis floristic region of Armenia. Leaves are distantly thinly serrrate, shortly undulate, sharply lanceolate, with grey tomentose pubescence, fruit stalk erubescent. Calyx lobes reflected upwards. [::Range Description] This species is endemic to Armenia where it occurs in the~Gegam,~Yerevan,~Daralegis,~Zangezur and~Megri floristic regions. [::Countries] Native:Armenia (Armenia) [::Population] It is rare and occurs at four locations. [::Habitat and Ecology] It grows in broad-leaved forests, on dry slopes, between 1,700-2,200 m asl. [::Major Threat(s)] The major threats are harvesting, in particular wood extraction for fuel and small timber.
