Constituents from Cell-Suspension Cultures of Selected Liverworts. Ono, K., Toyota, M., & Asakawa, Y. Phytochemistry, 31(4):1249-1250, 1992.

Four liverworts, Pellia neesiana, P. endiviifolia, Jungermannia infusca and Marchantia paleacea var. diptera were cultured in Murashige and Skoog's medium. The pungent diterpene dialdehyde, sacculatal, was detected in the metabolites of P. neesiana and P. endiviifolia. Thus P. neesiana is chemically very close to P. endiviifolia. Two clerodane-type diterpenoids were isolated from the cell culture of J. infusca and luteolin was obtained from the methanolic extract of the cell suspension culture of M. paleacea var. diptera. The structures were confirmed by comparison with spectral data of authentic samples.
