Information technology adoption by libraries: opportunities and barriers. Patkar, V. N. Information Studies, 6(2):125–140, April, 2000. FE: refs. tbls.
abstract   bibtex
Discusses the radical changes in the character of library operations in the future brought about by intensive application of information technology (IT) in carrying out many more library management functions and delivery services. The adoption of technology will not necessarily be easy or smooth: emphasises that an understanding of the peculiar features of IT is essential for its successful implementation and development in libraries. Focuses on studies of various impacts and strategies for the internalisation of IT products by libraries: covering CD-ROM and DVD, the Internet, data mining and warehousing, GIS, and expert systems.
