Begrenzung der Landschaftszerschneidung bei der Planung von Verkehrswegen. Penn-Bressel, G. GAIA - Ecological Perspectives for Science and Society, 14:130-134, Oekom Verlag, 2005. doi abstract bibtex In Germany, landscape fragmentation by the main road network is still increasing. This paper reports recent developments and identifies trends for the next decade. Based on two different quantitative indicators for landscape fragmentation, propositions for environmental goals in order to slow fragmentation are presented. Suggestions are given on how to introduce these quantitative environmental goals into regional development plans and plans for the development of main road infrastructure. Finally, the paper suggests a way in which landscape fragmentation can be adequately considered in the benefit-cost analysis that is part of the German federal road network planning.
