Soil and vegetation factors influencing den site selection of a Chihuahuan Desert rodent assembly. Phillips, M. D. Ph.D. Thesis, New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, New Mexico, 1986. abstract bibtex Den site selection by thirteen species of desert rodents was studied on the Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) site in Dona Ana County, New Mexico. Vegetation and soil factors were examined to determine how they influence den site selection. Vegetation analysis revealed that vegetation factors were important to the den distributions of Perognathus falvus, Perognathus intermedius and Neotoma albigula. Soil types were found important to all species except Neotoma albigula.
