A critique is presented of the poem "Aspecta Medusa" and the oil painting "The Girlhood of Mary Virgin" by British poet Dante Gabriel Rossetti, focusing on his interpretation of mimesis. Greek philosopher Plato's theories regarding art versus reality, aesthetics in art, and symbols in art are discussed, as well as Rossetti's influences from medieval art.
