Physiological responses to temperature in the horned lizards Phrynosoma cornutum and Phrynosoma douglassi. Prieto Ph.D. Thesis, New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, New Mexico, 1967. abstract bibtex Physiological responses to temperature were studied in Phyrnosoma cornutum and P. douglassi.... The results of these studies indicate that the wide range of distribution of P. douglassi is in part due to its wide zone of thermo-mobility and low CTMin as compared to P. cornutum. Differences in the oxygen pulse values of the two species at two temperature extremes differences in the cardiac output and efficiency. P. douglassi may have a more efficient mechanism for the transport of oxygen by the respiratory pigments of the blood at low temperatures than P. cornutum.
