Comparative Wage Justice. Provis, C. The Journal of Industrial Relations, 28(1):24–39, 1986.
Paper abstract bibtex Critics of comparative wage justice generally conflate different versions of the doctrine: a core version is that identical jobs should be paid equally, while extended versions advocate proportional payment of different jobs & maintenance of established relativities. Here, it is argued that issues of comparative wage justice can be defended on philosophical grounds derived from the classic principle of justice that equals should be rewarded equally & unequals in proportion to their differences. Even so, comparative wage justice is not an absolute requirement, & can be outweighed by countervailing factors. Modified HA
