New southern limit for the common chameleon Chamaeleo chamaeleon (Reptilia, Chamaeleonidae) in Morocco. Widely distributed in the northern half of Morocco, the common chameleon occupies all bioclimatic zones ranging from subhumid to arid; it extends further south in the Saharan zone, especially along the South Atlantic coast of Morocco. The southern limit of the known range of the species was at 87 km south of the town of Boujdour in the locality known as Lamjayibir. Recently, the common chameleon has been observed a few kilometers northeast of the bay of Ad-Dakhla in the province of Oued Ad-Dahab, more than 200 km south of Lamjayibir. This locality is then the new southern limit of the range of the species in Morocco. Unless it results from a low exploration effort in the Moroccan Atlantic Sahara, the distribution of the chameleon appears in the form of isolated patches, highlighting the vulnerability of this species in the southern half of the country.
