Explains how studies conducted by the Biblioteca Nacional Jose Marti in Havana, Cuba, on the character, content and structure of disciplines related to the library and information science profession have produced new ways of creating a knowledge system. Sets out the reasons for the adoption of the term `bibliological information' as well as for the delineation of main, complementary and specific disciplines. Original abstract - amended.
